Annie came home from kindergarten last week retelling the pilgrim story she heard at school. I could hardly write fast enough. (I guess I got the sugar coated version when I was in kindergarten):
"The king of the land - he wanted all the people to go to his church and not their own. So all the pilgrims went on the Mayflower. They were on the Mayflower boat and it was NOT fun. There were rats. It was really stinky and you had to be quiet and you could only take one toy. AND their legs were sore because they had to be on the boat a lot. When they got on the boat half the people died and then all of the other people died except the children. And the children were all alone. Someone climbed up to the top of the boat and said "Land Ho!" Winter was coming so they had to build a house. The kids went to play when they got off the boat. There were forests all around them. Someone called out, "Don't go too far!" Somebody saw a little brown face in the trees and looked away. When they looked back the face was gone. And it was a bear. The pilgrims built a house and the Indians came. An Indian named Squanto came and taught them how to cook and fish. They caught a stinky fish. They digged a little hole and put the fish in and covered it up with some seeds. When they digged it up it made corn. The Indians were nice to them. They had a feast. A feast is when you have a lot of food and it's a big dinner - it's like a party. And that's the end. We need to find out the rest... we didn't really like it because it was a sad story."
